Jessamie Kaitler’s commissioned composition Awakenings will debut along with Bach’s Sleeper’s Awake!, Haydn‘s Morning Symphony (#6) and Bax’ 3 Pieces for Small Orchestra. Stratus Music Director David Rutherford said, “We are very excited to share with you the World Premiere of a new work by Australian composer Jessamie Kaitler, who saw our immersive performance at the Czech Museum of Music in Prague and couldn’t wait to take the concept back home with her. She reached out and expressed a desire to work with Stratus in creating an unforgettable new work for the orchestra.” Jessamie Kaitler is an Australian composer based in Melbourne, with a particular career highlight composing Cascades in 2016 for Sarah Curro of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, a piece for semi-acoustic violin and backing track. Having studied film scoring with Berklee Music Online, Jessamie interned for Film Composer Chris Doucet in 2014 in Salt Lake City, Utah, before returning home to complete her Bachelor of Music (Composition and Music Production) at the Australian Institute of Music, Melbourne. In 2015 she scored for the motion picture Damage from the award-winning British psychological thriller and in 2018 scored the Australian documentary The Gladsome Centaur celebrating the life of Lottie Lyell and recognizing women in film.
